Job Description

Keoghs Scotland are seeking to recruit a 5-10 PQE solicitor to join their expanding team in Glasgow. The role is a hybrid one across the Healthcare and Large Loss teams. You will handle a varied caseload of defender pre-litigated and litigated healthcare and large loss cases for insurers and corporate risk clients. It is essential that applicants have experience of appearing in the Sheriff court and as instructing agent in the Court of Session. It is also essential that applicants will have experience in dealing with either clinical negligence and/ or large loss claims.  


Key Responsibilities

  • Running own case load of pre and post-litigation clinical negligence and large loss claims.
  • Preparing advice to insurers and other corporate clients.
  • Adhering to court deadlines and managing files in accordance with client SLA’s.
  • Forensic review and analysis of relevant documents assessing liability, quantum and causation in claims.
  • Client liaison and site visits.
  • Preparing court documents and correspondence to clients/witnesses.
  • Preparing witness statements.
  • Liaising with clients/ other insurers/ policyholders/ witnesses.
  • Instructions to experts.
  • Instructions to and working with counsel.
  • Negotiating settlements.
  • Court appearance work.
  • Assisting Partners and other members of the team where required.
  • Building and developing relationships with clients and key stakeholders.
  • Assisting in business development initiatives, including drafting of articles, blog pieces, e-shots and presentations and attendance at relevant events.


Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

• Litigation (large loss and/ or clinical negligence) experience between 5-10 years.
• Experience of litigation in the All-Scotland Personal Injury Court and Court of Session. 
• Team player.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Excellent forensic skills.
• Excellent organisational skills.
• Ability to prioritise tasks and to work under pressure.
• Previous experience of complex and/ or clinical negligence claims is required.
• Previous experience of time recording is preferable.
